Mark and I got a test game in the other night. I had a Militia themes squad and Mark played a Pirate squad. For our mission we had "Control the Board" which is having a model touching a terrain piece by the end of turn 6 and you score as well as points for any OOA. The location was the Pirates home and there was a dense cloud in the air making LOS to only 10". So right of the bat I knew fighting was going to be close and I have a shooty squad. On the other hand I figured if I left a few squad mates behind they can secure terrain without any danger of being attacked.
So I was the attacker and moved up three members to the center of the board. I was thinking to react to any enemy that moved but I learned here the reaction can be slower if there isn't any failed actions made by your opponent. If the model hadn't activated there is only a small chance of generating the die for you to react. Also you have to roll to react and that may not happen. Armor is good but it is like Infinity were it isn't by any means over powering. A poor roll still messes up your guy if you get hit, that how my a hefty pointed model got pretty much a punching bag and couldn't fight back because his arm got crippled. So stay out of sight early in the game or they will get shot up. Again learning the ropes, After Mark got two big boys up and disarmed my heavy weapon piece, I tried to even things up. I moved up with my flamer and he burnt up one of Mark's big boys and then I followed with my sniper guy. He hurt the other and I was starting to control the center of the board.
So here I learned the damage you receive and dish out. Models start collecting these pinning markers and they mess up your shooting and getting attacked in melee but the biggest deal is they are added to seizing the initiative back from your opponent. Although I had put a few wounds on Mark's squad, I had accumulated on him about 6 to 8 of these pins. So whenever he failed an action, I was immediately putting pressure on him by seizing the turn back. This limited his attacking of me and in turn I was rolling only two chances on actions. As things unfolded I managed to put one of Mark's squad into OOA. Victor with the flamer was a beast as he roasted this girl. This causes a HUGE event we both didn't expect. Once a model is put into OOA, you have to roll morale for your team. Their screams can cause serious worry to your squad. We were shocked when both of Mark's Big reptile guys got affected. Both critically failed and panicked. One ran off the board while the squad leader yelled enough to stop the other from doing the same but it took Mark off the terrain pieces and he ended up surrendering the center of the table.
Again with all the pin markers the end turns shifted quickly and the game ended with me taking 2 terrain pieces and 1 OOA and Mark had 1 terrain piece. 5 to 2. He would have had the OOA model dead but she was brand new and a new clone would have been made of her. While I would have had to use a XP on my heavy gunner when his armed was severed. These XP are then used to give new abilities and gear, since I can only give one model a max of 1/2 the XP gained, I would not have been able to earn anything to cool to raise a character.
Thoughts. The game is fun. It was a bit to get in grips with but once you do it simple enough. I love the easy use of any game systems figures to use and I found some more that will be fun to make a squad with. Mark and I learned as we prep for a video is that mission generation can be difficult if you don't have all the requirements. You may need extra models or certain terrain type. I got some work to do on that. We look forward to hearing anyone else's story of games and if you are excited to see some videos from us!
