The Battle for Pentegrad grinds on.
We played the 2nd installment of Truax's Battle for the City campaign. Territories changed hands between the Forces of the Imperium and the Hordes of Chaos but not much changed balance wise.
An inroad was pushed from each side into the other's claimed territory but the claimed territories are ripe for a counter offensive that could out flank the newly claimed areas of the city and cut them off from supply.
Orcs, Demons, and Dark Eldar had early victories that cut into the Imperium held areas of the city while Tyranid Biomorphs harassed all comers in their need for biomass.
My Sisters of the Righteous Holocaust attacked the Ork held pumping station. After 7 rounds of tooth and nail fighting with the Ministorum Priests Exhorting my Battle Sisters to be Fearless in the face of the green tide, and to take the fight into the heart of the Big Choppas, we emerged victorious. Though the Orcs were able to call in an air strike from the Dark Eldar Allies at a nearby airfieled that decimated my Battle Sisters, two of my sisters remained to chase off the last of his Shoota Boys from their table edge and claim their quadrant of the board. His Warboss and a couple of his Nob cadre remained however to lay claim to one of my board quadrants after finally clearing the way through a twenty Sister Strong squad led by one of my priests. Having a balance of quadrants owned the battle record was tallied to determine victory. My force consisted of initially two 20 Sister Troops Squads with a Ministorum Priest each. For the campaign rules, because force lists were restricted to 600 points, combat squadding was allowed for anyone with a squad over six. So I split one of the 20 Sister squads into two 10 sister squads and set the priest with one of them. So overall I had potentially 5 units to lose. He defeated 4 of them as the only troops that remained for me were 2 Sisters from the 10 Sister squad with the priest, but the priest was defeated during the flanking march by the Dark Eldar Razorwing that was called in from the strategic reserves the Forces of Chaos had available.
(I apologize I don't know the Orc codex well and am not sure of manyt of the actual unit names.) In return I was able to wipe most of his forces from the table including a Trukk that was filled with the melee Boyz troop choice and their Nob, a Deff Dredd walker, a strong squad of the Biker Boyz, 2 of the Ork Artillery Cannons, a full squad of Shoota Boyz. The Shoota Boyz were the last squad I fought and after a charge into their midst, they broke and ran. I wasn't able to sweep them but I was able to remain close enough that the couldn't recover and ran off the board edge in turn 7. The tally was 7 of his units destroyed to the 4 of mine leading the Sisters to claim the Pumping Station for the city's water supply. A Strategic Asset that will allow an infantry insertion force to secretly travel under the city by rerouting water and opening up the pipes for travel. his means that the insertion force could potentially strike anywhere in the enemy held territory and claim another vitally strategic asset.
The later battles fought saw a reversal of fortune and the Imperium forces rallied for victories that reclaimed some of the initially lost zones of the day. The Kreig forces thundered through the city rolling through their opposition and cutting deep into the canal district. The Tau fought for our Greater Good as they clashed with Dark Eldar Raiders and were driven back. Stinging from their defeat they took out their frustration on the demonic hordes in the city and cleansed the field with vigor. Making their mysterious Appearance was also the Legion of the Damned. Clashing with the Demons and Orcs the Legion was pushed from both fields though they claimed the lives and souls of many of the enemy before they were brought low. Their reputation as elite warriors of the Imperium remains intact.
As the sun set on the city of Pentegrad, though the lines had shifted some the balance of territories owned remained similar to the start of the day. The campaign grinds on with battle after battle, life after lost life. Will there even be a city left to fight over by the time one side sees a "clear victory"? Or will there only be Apocalypse?
