Last Monday ran my first D&D 5th edition game. Also first time I have run a game I think in three years. Pretty nice to get the creative juices flowing. Also shaking things up a bit and letting the odd races get a lot of face time in my games. And yes a lot more magic too!

NICE!! It sounds like a lot of fun playing with people experiencing it for the first time.

The Isle of Spero has a map now. What populates it?

As a cool way to help populate the island with collaborative brainstorming. When you post, answer the question posed, and then ask a question for the next person who responds.
There is a colony of fish people around that little tiny island in the Northwest. They lure ships onto the hidden reefs and loot the shipwrecks. That big clearing in the forest is a portal to the Silver City of the Fae, but it only opens when the moons are full during the summer solstice.
What color is the dragon that sleeps under the tallest mountain on the island?

Cool, thanks! What's the answer to the question? The human barbarians who live in those mountains worship the dragon, and want it to wake up, because in times past it patrolled those mountains and ate the orcs and goblins in the area. Turning the area into a safe and plentiful hunting area for the humans. Now the goblins are encroaching again and the barbarians are looking for help in returning the dragon to the skies. ------- Where does the cave system under/behind the waterfall lead?

The Isle of Spero Intro.docx (12.16 KB) This is my lead to the center mountain. I haven't develop anything else yet. This is a new world and I just did the shape format for it first. That's why you see no cities or towns

The caves behind the huge waterfall are the safest surface entrance to the underdark. It leads to vast caverns and miles of tunnels that adventurers flock to in hopes of finding glory and riches.
BTW, a thing I had always considered in building a world was to make all dragons individuals. No color so that you know what they breathe and what their alignment is. The older ones being names of legend and having family trees that let you know what alignment they tend to. In a campaign this would also make things more interesting for dragonkin, being able to trace their ancestry to a great legendary dragon, a young unknown one or just another source of mystery in their background.

Interesting idea but I am going for a much higher magic & fantasy in this world. The dragon lineage hold some thought as I am learning to add the Dragonborn into my world. I have one being played now with a story to the Gold Dragon in the center mountain kingdom. I still have some love of my old campaigns and the Blue & White Dragons being two of my favorite kind of dragons to use. So they will be returning here.

Blue Dragons are awesome!! What if there is a White Dragon in the NE mountains that runs the evil humanoids there like a mob boss, and a Blue Dragon from the hills just south of there is expanding its kingdom into those mountains and the two of them are fighting a proxy war using the local races to capture and hold territory. Blue Dragons are intelligent enough to act and plan like Moriarty and when the players become high enough level, it could hire them, through a middle man, to "help all of Spero" and remove the danger of the White Dragon from the world.

I am liking the idea of placement for those dragons. Could still use that idea of mob bossing with some twists. Love the concepts guys!

A helpful thought is to come up with ideas and placement for the new races like Dragonborn & Tieflings. I also grabbed the book for Aesimirs and Goliaths. This campaign is high fantasy and my current party has a lot of simple magic items and a few cool ones. So think fun!

I've always understood that the Dragonborn and Tieflings were scattered around in whatever towns they are allowed to stay for a while. The same way that half-elves and half-orcs have no homeland. They are scattered around wherever you want them to be.
But there is a really charismatic gold dragonborn who is building a community in the woods just west of the central mountains. A safe place, he says, for dragonborn to be amongst there own kind. It's a small frontier like place, where they are trying to homestead.
How do the High Elves feel about this? Do they support the new "nation" or do they feel resentful about a bunch of half-breeds setting up shop right next to them?
