I got this as a Kickstarter game and when I saw that it had 5 play modes, it was a must back. Gamlyn Games does a great job of delivering a very tight game within transporting and cost. I got in one game and watched some reviews on it so I thought I would share.
I will say the tasks by the survivors is really challenging and can be pretty varied again for a small game not bad. You have three objectives to do and each can be varied by either competitive or cooperative mode. They can be like fix the helicopter, rescue survivors, or even find a cure. So each turn a player has a lot of decisions to do. Another concern is their home base (the courtyard), you must keep the barrier up to protect your 2 extra lives. Also there is a neat mechanic of your life. You have a health and a ammo. Health has 0 when having no wounds and ammo is 9 when starting fresh. If they ever meet, your survivor dies and goes to the zombie player. So lots to think about.
If there is a Zombie player is not as active, its more of the long strategy game. The zombies more fill zones to pressure the players into fights and or attack the barricade to kill of the extra lives. Whatever zombie survivor you took gives you an ability but that happens when you match the supply card you give to the survivor and it matched the last mall location they are at. So pretty tricky but not at all impossible. If you kill survivors this gets added to your abilities to do so the challenge for players is there.
It's not Zombicide but it has a nice flare of things to do. It feels better in the objectives like Left 4 Dead but not in the action which Zombicide does better but there is a lot of substance to the game. As a travel light game this can easily and effectively fill a niche on a game need. I will keep this on hand perhaps you can get a game in with me
