So I got side tracked from my usual modeling when I friend asked me if I would build something for him. After some thought about whether I could or not, I decided to give it a go. So here is my attempt at modeling a life size robotic arm. Here are all the parts painted up, but before I added any of the rust and wear. All the metal is cut out of craft foam, sealed with mod podge and then painted with my air brush. I took a shortcut with the hand and glued the foam over an old lacrosse glove. I then used E6000 to glue it all to an old shirt sleeve. He's actually wear the striped shirt over the arm, having torn the sleeve off that one. What you can't see is the leather harness sewn to the edge of the black sleeve I put the foam on. I now have a machine that can easily sew leather and it was fun testing it out on this project. ^_^ Fans of FMA, may recognize the inspiration for the design. Okay! NOW back to normal scale modeling.

That looks pretty cool. How thick was the craft foam that you used?

It was the really thin craft foam, the stuff you can get for a dollar or two per sheet depending on the size. Price was an issue or I might have gone with the PVA foam you can find in hardware stores. It's already been repaired once, now, which just gives it character, right? Opening weekend is this Saturday so I intend to go see how it holds up. www.facebook.com/events/308231509756049/
