So news out of Mantic is their development into the fantasy skirmish scene. Now I am all for companies spreading their wings but if it was developed and released by them. They have asked the community to Kickstart another project and they haven't delivered on Dreadball to me and I don't think on maybe two other projects. (Dungeon Terrain). I am getting a bit perturbed by this. How do you feel about Mantics business model. I once loved what this company was about, filling in niche games but this seems silly and greedy. All things we hated GW these guys are doing but asking us to fund them.

Not fulfilling commitments and failing to support existing product lines will kill any company. But living from kickstarter to kickstarter is just a drawn out way of delaying that demise. Hopefully you get your product before they get to far down that spiral to recover.

Well each line is self produced. I'm fine with that CMON does it well. My thing is that they are a table top company. Yet they don't stay on point to make a system that will have a strong base. Kings of War got popular on its own. They make fun games but they immediate move to the next project is disheartening. Deadzone and Dreadball have fallen because they are not out and not in game stores. They are trying to build up Warpath but are already leaving it for Vanguard. Just an odd strategy for a gaming company with lack of product in hobby stores.

That is basically what I'm saying above. Eventually their reputation will suffer because of many people feeling the same way about Mantic that we do. Then as people turn away, taking their sales elsewhere, Mantic will lose the revenue necessary to support existing games even if they wanted to.
It's pretty telling that the Vanguard kickstarter is only at 80% funding after 24 hours. That is really slow for one of their campaigns. I'd hope that some of the people in their office are starting to realize that people are tiring of their constant ks.
There are also relatively few comments in their updates, and those are a little more cranky than typical.

I didn't really bother to look. It seems like you can get one team and the rules or you can get a two-player starter box.
The price of the starter box was $85, I think. But I'm tired of unsupported games that I won't even see for at least a year.

I am with you. The minis looked good but the practice of Mantic has made me back off. Seemed to be back on the GW train

I wouldn't trust a company that does it's business by so many kickstarters. They are great to get started but makes it feel like they can just disappear overnight and don't really want to invest in their games. Would make me learly of how much support I would get on their products.

So I just saw some news that Mantic is taking pre-orders for Star Saga. So after a successful Kickstarter, Mantic needs to get more by doing Pre-Orders. I mean it looks like a good game with a solid amount of minis. But OMG for supplying money to run your business before you deliver a product. How about doing something with the local FLGS. I thought this company had a good grip with what the consumer gamer wanted but within 2 years they have really gone off rails. Too bad 😕
