I have found a warband builder to help everyone out. I will explain some of what you see. M= movement , the distance measured in inches. F= fight, this is the models d20 melee roll the higher bonus also effects damaging models. S= shoot. Same as Fight but with range. Another note you can't get hurt back from a shoot attack. A= armor, this # is subtracted from the hit rolled. IE you roll a 10 + 2 (F bonus) and opponent rolls 16 + 2 (their F bonus) if your A is 12 you would take 6 damage (16+2= 18 - 12 (your Armor)= 6 damage). W= will and is used versus certain spells. H= Health the models hit points.
Every warband starts with 500 gc. An apprentice costs 200 gc.
The phases go
Wizard [can activate 3 soldiers if within 3"]
Apprentice [can also activate 3 soldiers but not the same from wizard]
Soldiers phase [non-activated soldiers now activate] Creature phase

Just playing with the builder for a minute:
Using My GW Goblins:
Goblin Shaman (Wizard with Witch School - What else makes sense) Goblin Shaman (Apprentice) 3x Goblin Archers (Archers) 2x Goblin Spearmen (Infantrymen) 5x Squigs (Warhounds)
Those are just models I know I have without looking at my reaper stuff. No idea if it is any good but could be fun!

The idea is treasure hunting so that may "Squigs" would mean they couldn't pick up treasure for you. That's why Treasure Hunter, Tracker, or Thief have excellent movement to get to treasure and grab it for your wizard

I actually think it's an annoyingly solid list. Of course, I haven't played the game yet, but from a tactical view, Use the hounds to harass the enemy, and force them to deal with the dogs rather than do what they planned. The archers can use concentration of fire. While the infantry and spellcasters move to gather the treasure.
I've been trying to think of a way to counter the list, without duplicating the list.

I saw a warhound in one report and it didn't slow the enemy more than one activation and he moved on. They way fights go both roll a d20 and add Fight. Highest wins. Here the kicker, the original roll is then compared to the armor (A) of the model and the difference is the damage taken. Unless you run as a pack and each one acts after your opponent activates one back really tough to do. But your more than welcome to try it for the sake of numbers

Well there we go then. That plan would've gone to pieces the first time I put any weight on it.

I may still put weight on it. Those tactics were exactly what I was thinking. If it doesn't work I can hire some other goons to go treasure hunting for me. I'll of course have to peruse the rules to see if it is a truly terrible plan.

I'm thinking about: Soothsayer; Apprentice; Knight; Treasure Hunter x2; Thief x2 or Soothsayer; Knight; Ranger; Treasure Hunter x3; Thief x3

The one with the apprentice is more solid. The apprentice knows all the same spells as the wizard just isn't as big but better than soldiers. There is a reason they have their own phase plus they also can group activate up to three soldiers just like the wizard

I agree. The list with the apprentice represents more magical firepower and flexibility, and order/activation efficiency.
The list w/o apprentice represents weight of bodies. The only advantage it has would be if it happened to greatly outnumber the opposition. That would allow some guys to be tasked with engaging/running interference and the others would just run in, grab stuff, and run out to score.
After considering it, I think the first list w/ apprentice has more flexibility and fits the main spirit of the game better. The second list could work but it would only be in special situations.

Yeah the other list would be good as a quicker treasure grab list. Not much fight but fast to treasure and fast off the board. Would be interesting
