I finally get to chime in on this subject, it felt like a topic from a long time ago in a thread far far away... Oh need to get on topic, I absolutely loved the film as part of the series continuing forward. Yeah, the plots are overly deep but neither were any of the prior films. What they did do was add mystery in the new characters and revealed enough through this chapter in the movie. We were curious about Kyo Ren during the early trailers and got our confirmation that he was Han & Leia son. I felt the turn of the story when he was going to kill his father but their was rumor that Chewie didn't make it either but he did. Rey still feels like she is also the child of Han & Leia and that comes from prior back story of Star Wars than from the film itself. Although they said they changed cannon from the novels Han & Leia did have twin children both as force users. I have heard more traits from the daughter of them that she possessed more Han traits and was a capable pilot. All things Rey showed in the new film. The spin of the First Order is very cool. Recruiting from children is also very fitting for this evil regime but I again loved some homage to the older books. Finn break from the Stormtrooper ranks was something again that Timothy Zahn wrote with "Allegiance" with stormtroopers that broke from their orders much like in the movie except their were five in the book. I liked the thought in that and how it was put in the film. I must say that I loved Poe Dameron. He was a better character than Wedge on film but what Wedge was in books. Also bringing in the old characters was also well written. It had a very solid RPG story to it from an Epic stand point. Let the new characters be the driving force of the story [had to add that pun] and get moved into place by the old guard, make a villain terrible by killing a favorite. Classic! Anyway it was very well done and worth seeing many times over!

I don't think Han is dead. He did the classic gandalf fall, and no one else in the movie died from a saber wound. Apparently sabers are far less powerful in JJ's mind.

I really like Poe Dameron too. I had read he was supposed to die in this one, but Jj changed his mind when they started filming because he liked what Oscar Issacs was doing and it clicked how to keep him alive in the story.

Nah, Solo is dead. I believe that was more with a Harrison Ford thing to get sent off than want by Disney. It also added gravity for Kylo Ren being very evil and he gets very deadly as the trilogy moves on.

Yeah, he's dead. Ford has said before that he thought Solo was dumb as a bag of rocks and should of died in the original trilogy. They got him to come back for one to finish it out. Now Ford and Disney will work on Indiana Jones 5.

Yeah, lets hope that one is better than the last. Talking with Jeff though I kinda wished they left it were they we're taking off to get to Luke than the end shot with her holding the light saber out to him. I also wasn't thrilled with Carrie Fisher in this one. I want to say though BB-8 was fantastic. I loved him and became my second favorite Droid!

Eh, they wanted to be able to show Luke though. Maybe a cut to him on his own not them meeting would have worked. BB8 is great. Bill Hader and Ben Shwartz are credited as voice consultants for it so they definitely put effort into making it entertaining.

It was cool seeing Luke but the end was just odd for a movie. No one liner, are big reveal in his look, just the two standing there. I might add the First Order was very menacing. They were pretty bad ass for Stormtroopers go. Didn't feel like they were as lousy shots as their previous counterparts

I think the ending was a great tease to get you excited for Ep. 8...will Luke play a bigger role in that movie with no appearance from other original trilogy characters? I'm going to guess Luke plays a big role to start the film, training Rey and after we find out who's daughter she is or what bloodline, Luke dies somehow and ends his legacy. I also agree Solo is dead and it does boost Kylo's cred as a bad guy for the next film or two...and I bet that Kylo and Rey eventually team up to fight Snoke (Darth Plagius?). I'm not as up to speed on Star Wars cannon, but I believe that Jedi's were not suppose to have families...so I don't think she ends up being Luke's daughter but maybe Skywalker bloodline somehow. I will note Rey did seem very comfortable behind the "Wheel" of the Falcon with Chewie as a co-pilot but both Anakin and Luke were considered "natural" pilots.

In other Jedi material Jedi were not encouraged to marry because that is forming an attachment and once you have something you are attached to you have something to fear losing. Jedi did have marriages historically, usually with other Jedi to continue breeding force sensitives. And in so far as Luke goes he was basically creating a new order so he wasn't following the old school rules much at all.

Who wrote that canon? As far back as Knights of the Old Republic they said no romances. It was a play point for Bastille and why choosing Sith was a decision to make. I don't recall any significant Jedi having families of their own. I would be interested in that perspective.

So the identity of Snoke continues to draw scrutiny from the fans. The latest fan theories are suggesting that Snoke is in fact Vadar/Anakin. They site the similarity in facial scars as the only proof. Thoughts? I say no as Anakin is dead and I believe Snoke is alive and what we saw was just a hologram projection like the Emperor used to use..Snoke just goes big ala the Wizard of Oz. I think Snoke will end up being Snoke...just a new bad guy in the line and not someone previously established.

I agree, Snoke is Snoke, no need to make him a pre-existing character unless it is a real off the wall one. Him being Vader or Plaguis would be kinda dumb. Also Han has to be dead or Ren isn't that much of a baddie.
Also remember that all expanded universe cannon is not cannon anymore. There is very little out there besides what is in the movies and the Clone Wars & Rebels series that is considered cannon. Although there is a book out with more on Poe, Fin, and Rey's backgrounds, with alot of info other than of course who Rey actually is.

Yeah no chance on Vader. I did hear a theory of it more than likely being Plaguis as if you listened in Episode 3 and when Snoke appearance they have a similar score from Williams. I mean the scene at the opera when Plaguis is mentioned to Anakin
